17 Spectacular themed floats for the parade:· “Night Games” -- In the last days of Sportsman’s Park, the Cardinal Baseball team boards a trolley at Delmar Loop following a pep rally with well-wishing baseball fans. VP’s newly formed Rock and Roll Band (The Sportsmen) performs a lively original arrangement of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” · “Luna Fantasy” -- A summer night’s dream is visually experienced as a large animated Luna Moth flutters her wings in a garden shared with dancing Pans and Fairies on giant mushroom heads. · “Speakeasy” -- A return of Bugsy Stark’s Art Deco club scene with his “All Gangster Band” playing Jazz favorites. Dancers perform a floor show as gangsters and their ladies mix it up and have “A Night Out.” · “A Night at the Movies” -- Seeking entertainment by thrills and chills, movie-goers attend an all-night showing of a classic Zombie movie marathon at the drive-in theater. · “Swingtime” -- Cowboys and cowgirls Swing Dance to spirited energetic Country Western music. A group of cowboys and cowgirls, each with two left feet, watch from the convenient fence rail. “No Shore Leave” -- Pirates thirsting vice and grog are refused shore leave and a rowdy protest ensues. The threat of mutiny builds as the pirates set upon the Captain of the ship and send him toward the gangplank. · “Peppermint Twist” -- Peppermint candy and a lighted dance floor enhance a bright colorful animated bandstand for VP’s live flamboyant animated puppet disco band; accompanied by Go-Go dancers, flashing lights and spinning peppermint candies. · “A Night at the Circus” (Box Cars) -- Performing animals, elephants, giraffes and tigers, are costumed and waiting in their Box Car dressing rooms for the evening’s presentation. Clowns rehearse juggling routines in front of parade spectators as mischievous elephants squirt water. · “A Night at the Circus” (VP Circus Float) -- A live 12 piece Circus Band accompanies performers with authentic & live circus music; pulled by a spectacular four horse team of Percheron draft horses. · “Moonlight Cruise” -- A summer evening with moon light shimmering on the water’s surface as a paddle wheel steam ship cruises up the Mississippi River in the moon shadow of the St. Louis Arch; live music with the “Reunion Jazz Band.” · “A Night at the Muny” -- The evening begins early with St. Louis’s talented youth (“Muny Kids”) performing songs and dance in the rehearsal pavilion for upcoming Muny shows. · “Jitter Bugs” -- The Bugville Jitterbug Dance Club puts on the Ugly Bug Ball featuring the “All Bug Jug Band” as dancers perform the “Lady Bug Hop.” · “Barn Dance” -- Old McDonald had a farm and the cow jumped over the moon. Rural community barn dance with live grass roots music. · “Backyard Stargazing” -- Camping out in your own back yard, the earth is your vehicle and you are riding through the universe on a moonless night with stars so bright. · “Jukebox Joint” -- Juke Box rocks on a Saturday night as teenagers hang out at the local malt shop. Bobby socks, poodle skirts, duck tails are in style. Nickel up the juke box and the dance floor swings with 50’s rock-n-roll. · “A Night at the Kasbah” -- In the land of Khorassan, we see a royal formal garden with elevated pavilions and walkways. Small sailing vessels dock to off load colorful baskets of fresh flowers. Maidens of the VP Court stroll the gardens and share fresh flowers with parade spectators. · “Fair Saint Louis” -- “The City of St. Louis” steam powered river boat passes under the Arch as a Red, White and Blue patriotic stunt plane salutes a crowd of Fair airshow spectators, with a roll over. Eight giant helium balloons will dance along the parade route: · Liberty Bell · Four Patriotic Hats · Ludwig the Lion · New Train · Louie the Lightning Bug · Bullwinkle · Wings of Hope · Underdog. |
